May 4, 2023 By Melanie Baker

Popular South Wales-based Team Raven, a formation aerobatic display team flying self-build aircraft who have performed across Europe return to Wales Airshow for 2023!

Already announced are the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster bomber as part of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – and crowd favourites the RAF Red Arrows and RAF Typhoon Display Team.

There’ll be many other stars of the skies too – and a wide range of family fun on the ground, including displays, virtual reality experiences and live music.

Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “We’re delighted that Team Raven will be flying over Swansea again this summer. It’ll be great to have them back over the skies of Swansea.”

“We thank all the traders and our sponsors for their contribution to the show’s ongoing success.

“The show always has a real family atmosphere which results in a great weekend for all involved. It contributes millions of pounds to our local economy.”

The Bristol Blenheim

May 31, 2017 By Chris Williams

The Bristol Blenheim

A British plane that was extensively used during the first two years of the Second World War will be taking part in the Wales Airshow this summer.

The Bristol Blenheim proudly sponsored by the Village hotel at Wales Airshow 2017, has been added to the line-up for the free event, which takes place in the skies above Swansea on Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2.

Around 50 Blenheims supported the Dunkirk evacuation by harassing enemy forces in 1940.

Swansea Council is behind the Wales Airshow, with Swansea University on board as the event’s key sponsor.

Frances Jenkins, the council’s Strategic Manager for Marketing, Tourism and Events, said: “This is the first time ever that the Bristol Blenheim will participate in the Wales Airshow in Swansea.

“As well as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the confirmation of this aircraft shows how determined we are to combine nostalgia with state-of-the-art aerobatic displays, helping ensure the event has something for everyone.

“The Wales Airshow is the best free event of its kind in the country. It’s important not just because it offers world class entertainment on local people’s doorsteps, but also because it attracts many thousands of visitors from across South Wales and further afield. This means more spending in the city’s shops, restaurants, hotels, pubs and other businesses, which is great boost for the local economy.”

A dynamic timetable of display times for the Airshow will be fed into an Airshow App a few days before the event.

The App, which is now available, will be updated in real time to reflect changes in the event schedule and timings that may be caused by the weather and other factors.

Details of premium parking and park and ride for the Wales Airshow are also now available.

Other aircraft now confirmed for the Wales Airshow include the RAF Red Arrows, the RAF Typhoon display team, the RAF Chinook, the Tigers parachute display team and Gyro Air Displays.

Red Arrows confirmed for both days of WAS17!

March 21, 2017 By Chris Williams

Red Arrows at Wales Airshow

WORLD class aerobatic team the Red Arrows will be returning to Swansea for the Wales Airshow this summer.

The Red Arrows will be taking to the skies on both days of the free Swansea Council event on Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2.

Officially known as the Royal Air Force aerobatic team, the Red Arrows have performed over 4,700 displays in more than 50 countries across the world since the 1960s.

It’s also been announced that Swansea University will be the Wales Airshow’s main sponsor this year.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Culture, Tourism, Marketing and Events, said: “It’s great news that the Red Arrows have confirmed that they’ll be taking part in the free Wales Airshow this summer.

“They’re among the most popular and famous aerobatic teams in the world, so it’s testament to the event’s organisation, quality and continuing popularity that they’ll be taking to the skies above Swansea Bay once again in July.

“We’re also delighted that Swansea University is now on board as the Wales Airshow’s main sponsor this year. This will allow the event to link-in with the university’s world-renowned aerospace engineering department, while also opening up a whole raft of new opportunities to make the event more successful than ever before.

“We look forward to working closely with Swansea University to ensure the Wales Airshow 2017 is once again an event to remember for local residents and many thousands of visitors to the city.”

Other aircraft that took part in last year’s Wales Airshow included the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Russian MiG from the Cold War and the Tigers parachute display team.

Ms Jenkins said: “Keep an eye out for more announcements over coming months as we continue to confirm other exciting additions to the Wales Airshow 2017 programme. The event will once again be a highlight of the fantastic Enjoy Swansea programme of events and activities.”
